Last Day of Summer!

So today is my last day of summer, that means tomorrow I officially go back!  But here's a little secret I've been back most of summer, popping in to do this or that.  Although I have to say good-bye to the fun days of summer, I am really excited to be back to see little smiley faces.

Thought I might tell you a little about my family and give you a look of my summer vacation.  My husband who is better known as Mr. Haag, is the Elementary PE teacher.  He has many hats that he wears in our district, as he also is a Assistant Principal, Head High School Football Coach, and also teaches high school weights.  Beyond his school responsibilities we love him just for being a great husband and daddy.  He always has a way to brighten my day and makes me laugh daily.

Macy is our oldest daughter, she is entering third grade this year!  Man time flies!!!!  Our son is Trent and he is also in first grade just like you or your student.

We went on a family vacation with the whole "Haag" clan.  It was such a great time to just hang out with family.  While we were there we had family photos done, and I just think they are awesome!!!  But this is my precious crew and I am just a little partial!  We vacationed in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  While there we swam in the ocean in good company with jelly fish, both my kiddos were stung.  They really were not a big deal, but the fun was all in splashing into the waves, building sand castles, having a dolphin swim within ten feet of us, and burying Uncle Nick!  We also went on a dolphin cruise and it was amazing!  Mr. Haag went parasailing while I took Macy and Trent on a pirate cruise.  We also visited Savannah, Georgia and toured the town.  It has such beautiful architecture and the history of the town was unbelievable!

So you can tell I love my family, and I've enjoyed good times with them this summer.  Now it's the last day of summer and time for me to put the flip flops away, until next year summer!

Now that the school year is finally here, I am excited to be able to share it with you.  I am looking forward to seeing your smiley face next Wednesday August 21st!!!

Mr. Haag's Mom & Dad, sisters, brother in-laws and nephews.  We love them dearly and treasured our vacation.

Teddy Bear Day

We had a Teddy Bear Day, and each student was able to bring their favorite bear to school.  During the day we did an estimation jar with gummy bears, fiction and nonfiction stories about bears, compared real bears and teddy bears, learned bear facts, and created a story map of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Below is a photo of each student with their bear.  They had to use capital letters to identify a proper noun (their bears name), used adjectives to describe how their bear felt and what color it was, and also used a ruler and for some bears a yard stick to measure their height.

This was such a fun day, and I am so happy to be able to share it with you.  Recently I had a project from Donorschoose.org completely funded .  I received an Epson Scanner for our classroom.  The donors for our project included the company Epson covering fifty percent of the cost of our scanner, Elizabeth Gidley a woman who grew up in Howard and attended Moline Grade School, and a woman by the name of Cynthia from Olathe.  A big thanks goes out to these wonderful donors for allowing me to do extra things for my students.  This scanner will be a wonderful way for my students to share their great work with family and friends.

Our class would like to invite you to watch us perform during PE Night.

Read Across America

Today we joined in Read Across America.  Our Principal Mrs. Young read "The Cat in the Hat"  to the students.  What was most exciting was how dramatic it was.  The kids were able to go on stage and hear the story with the lights out.  It was even by the light of a fire, how cozy!  Thanks goes out to Mrs. Young and Mrs. Madison for making it a great day.  Sorry I boxed a few kiddos out.  Those are the other first grade students.  I do not have permission slips for them, like I do for my class.

Contraction Doctor

Today the First Grade Doctors performed surgery on contractions.  They had to cut out the parts that were no longer needed and band aid the contraction together.
